♥ This Week's Loves ♥

1. My nails have been destroyed by weeks of DIY, so it's nice to have pretty, painted nails again!

2. I love how well Panda is settling in to our new home! I bought a desk which sits right next to his cage and he stands up at the side and watches me work!

3. I've seen Rush twice this week! I saw White House Down and Sunshine On Leith too, but this is a really good film. We don't have D-Box (chairs that vibrate and move slightly to simulate parts of the film) at my local Cineworld, so during my trip to Glasgow I decided to try it out and saw Rush again! (I'll be blogging about my trip in the next couple of days, so keep an eye out for that to find out what I got up to and what I thought of D-Box).

4. I got a new car! Well, new to me anyway! I felt very sad about giving up my sporty Celica for this sensible (boring!) car, but just as I was away to trade it in the exhaust burst, so it made handing it over a bit easier!

5. I had my first Japanese lesson and it went well.  The class seen really nice and the teacher is good fun, now I just have to take it all in!

6. For some reason I don't eat at my local Wagamama, but get really excited when I see it elsewhere! I love their Saien Soba ramen.

7. I made some tartan clothes for my Blythes this week. I find sewing doll's clothes so frustrating, possibly because I don't give myself enough time to do it, but they're so tiny and niggley that they make me bored and angry!

8. I didn't do all that sewing just for fun, the little outfits were made especially for BlytheCon UK. I had a great time this year, partly because I was a newbie last year and didn't know anyone, and partly because of the great atmosphere and people who attended.

9. Of course, during my trip I couldn't resist having a look through Glasgow's vintage and charity shops. I'll show you my finds in the next couple of days too!

Life Scouts

Do I have enough regular features? Yes, I probably do! But here's one I couldn't resist...

Life Scouts is the brainchild of Alex Day, who I've watched on YouTube for a very long time. In fact he was one of the first channels I subscribed to, back when he used to be just Nerimon.

So basically the idea is that it's a badge collecting community, and you gain badges by telling your blog readers about your experiences in that specific area. What a great idea!*

* Plus I want some badges :)

French Language Badge

Like a whole lot of kids in the UK, I studied French at school. At my school, we only had the choice of French or German and, as I'd heard that German was more difficult, I went for French!

I studied it for four years and got myself a Standard Grade of 3 I think, but the best bit of all was getting to go on my first trip abroad to Disneyland Paris, where I used no French whatsoever!

However, I do actually still remember some of the language, and it came in very helpful on my last trip to France when we'd had a nightmare of a day and a problem getting a hotel room!

Guitar Badge

I have very little patience or ability when it comes to learning musical instruments, but my greatest success (pretty much by default) was when playing the guitar.

I'd always fancied being a drummer really, but I saw a gorgeous blue bowl-backed semi-acoustic that shook me. I was all set to have lessons, but I moved to Dundee and became too busy with settling in, starting work and meeting new people that I forgot about it all.

After things had calmed down I picked it up again, this time teaching myself from books, but just as I was learning some proper tunes (a little Garth Brooks anyone?) I became ridiculously poor and had to sell my guitar and I haven't picked one up since. Which is probably for the best :D

What do you reckon?  Is this a good feature? How are your French/guitar skills?

♫ Tuesday Tuneage ♫

When I was 14, Mum asked what I'd like to do for my birthday and I said I'd like to go ice skating with friends. I'd only been skating once before on a school trip years before, but I invited my friends Vicky and Susannah to the local ice rink and spent most of the time slowly circling the edge.

We decided to take a break and get some snacks and this group of slightly older kids went to the jukebox right in front of us. One of the boys caught my eye as he put in his coins and selected this song.

When we went back to the rink the girl of the group skated up to me and asked if I fancied that boy (she'd caught me staring at him!) and I said "Why? Is he your boyfriend?" and she said no, he was just a friend and he'd spotted me too. Cue all sorts of butterflies and teenage excitement!

I stood at the side of the rink and he skated towards me. He stopped with the slickest slide, covering my boots in ice shavings and I almost melted a hole in the ice. We only went out for a short time, but his friends were so cool and we met at the ice rink most weekends where I watched their speed-skating in awe.

Everytime I hear this song is reminds of exactly how I felt that day...
