My Attempt At An Outfit Post

Outfit posts are something I've been putting off for a few reasons.

My excuses are that I don't have the space or the right lighting or equipment, but here's the real reason...

...I just don't like pictures of myself!

I have a tendency to make faces in photos, always have done, here are some shining examples:

What can I say, I have an expressive face!

But this week I decided to bite the bullet and just take some blinkin' pictures! And here's the best one:

Shirt: New Look - Jeans: New Look - Vest: Topshop

I made a backdrop using a clothes rail and some fabric, which is not ideal but there are no blank walls in my house with enough space in front of them for the camera! The handy thing about it is that it can be wheeled about and moved to suit the light! I parked it in the living room which has the biggest window and set up my tripod and the self-timer and away I went!

In future I'll do more pictures to show detail etc, but I just wanted to show you this shirt which was only £6 in the sale at New Look and there were loads in my local store. It'll be a great shirt/jacket to chuck on over summery outfits I think!

What do you think? Do you have any tips for outfit posts?

☆ Flights Of Fancy ☆

Things which have captured my imagination this week...

This bedding looks awesome in this white room! I also love their tablecloths and cushions

Avoid getting your coats mixed up with these jpeg hooks!

These images of a squirrel eating a Tunnock's teacake!

OK, I'm a convert! I wasn't that interested in Chris Pine before but these pictures and the stubble and the glasses and the Ellen interview? I'm sold!

This dress is so summery and beautiful!

How could anyone resist this little fella? This is Ray Charles, who was born blind and ridiculously cute!

Tagged! 25 Questions

The lovely Danielle over at Underland To Wonderland set a tag challenge this week, which I'll get to later, but I also spotted her 25 Questions post and thought I'd share my answers too!

1. Do you have any pets?
I have one pet and that's Panda Amos Starchild, my gorgeous furbaby guinea pig! I've only had him for a month and we're still getting to know each other, but he's lovely!

2. Name 3 things that are physically close to you.
A cup of tea, my laptop and my mobile, essential tools for blogging!

3. What's the weather like right now?
The sun is setting on what has been a beautiful sunny day!

4. Do you drive? If so have you crashed?
I've been driving for 16 years and I've never crashed! I've skidded about a few times in the snow and ice but *touch wood* I've never had an accident.

I currently drive a Toyota Celica, which I totally love! As soon as I saw it I knew it was the car for me and I've had it for about 5 years. The garage keeps telling me I should get a new car, but I'm not quite ready to part with my sporty Celica!

5. What time did you wake up this morning?
About 8:25am, which is my usual weekday time. I'm really not a morning person, so I leave it right til the last minute!

6. When was the last time you showered?
About 8:30 this morning!

7. What was the last movie you saw?
I went to see The Hangover III at the weekend and loved it, although it wasn't quite as good as the others. It didn;t have that same "wish I was there" feeling!

I run a Twitter cinema group which goes to see the latest new releases every weekend, so you can usually find me watching a movie or two (or three!) every weekend!

8. What does your last text message say?
It says "No problem! x" and it was a message to my friend who said thank you for giving her advice. It's also a phrase that I use ALL THE TIME!

9. What's your ringtone?
I don't have one, I always have my phone on silent! They're a bit of a pet hate of mine, mainly because people at work leave their mobiles on their desks and go out, so I have to hear the loudest most annoying tones ever!

10. Have you ever been to a different country?
Yes, I've been to a few: The rest of the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Netherlands, Portugal, Egypt, and my favourite of all, Japan. I love travelling and like to do it as much as possible! Later this year I'm off to the US for the first time and I'm very excited!

11. Do you like sushi?
Yip, I like how fresh it tastes. I didn't have any in Japan though because I'm a veggie and they put fish sauce on EVERYTHING, so I stick to my friendly local Yo! Sushi instead!

12. Where do you buy your groceries?
From supermarkets mostly. I do all my food shopping in the evening and can't imagine how I would have survived pre-24 hour opening!

13. Have you ever taken medication to help you fall asleep faster?
I remember trying Nytol once and thinking that it made absolutely no difference whatsoever, so I never bothered again. If I'm struggling to sleep I reach for a book instead.

14. How many siblings do you have?
I have an older sister and a younger brother. I'd say I'm a pretty typical middle-child :)

15. Do you have a desktop computer or a laptop?
I actually don't have either at the moment, I work as a Web Developer so my work provides me with both. When I move house (very soon I hope!) I'll have to get one or the other for my own use.

16. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
Sadly, I'll be 35 in February. I very rarely give my age a thought, unless asked directly! I'm not at all a proper grown-up like some people my age, and I live in the hope that I might never be!

17. Do you wear contacts or glasses?
Neither. I wore glasses from the ages of 7-28ish, and contact lenses on and off from my teens upwards, but I decided to have laser eye surgery about 6 years ago and it's one of the best things I've ever done!

18. Do you color your hair?
I dye my own hair at home over the bath! I use L'Oreal Paris Casting Crème Gloss in Plum and even my hairdresser tells me how much she loves it!

19. Tell me something you are planning to do today.
Finish this post and go to bed! It's getting late and I had a very busy day at work, viewed a flat to buy, fed Panda some carrots and watched some TV, so I'm pretty tired!

20. When was the last time you cried?
I'm not really much of a crier, so it gets saved up over a long period of time and then I cry over something stupid and small! That happened earlier tonight, so I'm all set for the next 6 months!

21. What is your perfect pizza topping?
I usually have a veggie pizza, but I think it's Pizza Hut that do one with goats cheese, spinach, caramelised onions and cherry tomatoes. Yum!

22. Which do you prefer-hamburgers or cheeseburgers?
Even as a meat-eater I was never a fan of burgers, but I do like a halloumi burger, either from Giraffe or Ketchup restaurants. I guess that counts as a cheeseburger!

23. Have you ever had an all-nighter?
Oh yes! Quite a few to be honest! Sometimes the party is just too good to stop!

24. What is your eye color?
My eyes used to be really blue, but now they are blue/grey with flecks of light brown/orange. (Mental note: tidy up eyebrows)

25. Can you taste the difference between Pepsi and Coke?
Yes, absolutely.  I can tell the difference in taste and, this may sounds crazy, but the bubbles are bigger in Pepsi.

Hope you enjoyed reading that little insight into stuff about me!

Thrifty Finds

What an awesome week of thrifting I've had!

Can you believe someone was selling this well loved bear? I just had to save him! They sold me this Glo Bug too. I remember me and my sister had some when we were little, but I've no  idea what happened to them. I also bought this vanity case for my Blythe doll clothes as there's far too many for the box they're in just now!

This TARDIS was ridiculously cheap! As soon as I got home I put in new batteries and it works fine, it makes noises and the light flashes, and you can open the doors for different sounds too.

I loved watching Snoopy on TV as a kid, these books are now available in my vintage shop.

It's quite rare to find annuals as old as these in such good condition and I've never seen these titles before. These are also all available in my vintage shop.

Another great Richard Scarry book for my collection! I really love the pictures in these, probably because I remember them from my childhood! The Curious George one is newer than I had originally thought, so it's not quite vintage yet, but the Bambi and Noddy storybooks are for sale in my shop.

I've spent the last few evenings making these jigsaws and although The Muppet Show one is in great condition, the New Avengers one has a few bits missing :(

I got a pop-up book which I thought would be nice to read with my niece when she's older. It has three scenes, each with a little storybook and moving parts.

Finally, my favourite purchase of the week, a 1970s ride-on Fisher Price horse! It needs a little bit of a clean but I love how simple and sturdy Fisher Price toys are so I couldn't resist it!

What great thrifty finds have you made this week?

♥ This Week's Loves ♥

1. This week is my workiversary, I've been here for 5 years! That definitely called for cake!

2. I've been considering this Zara bag for a while, ever since I saw Milkteef blog about it, and this week she mentioned it again so I just went ahead and got it. I love that it looks like a sandwich bag!

3. I've been dining with friends this week. My friend Leanne was back up visiting from London and it was great to catch up over her homemade vegemince, peach bellinis and chocolate, and I went out for lunch with another friend and had this delicious rhubarb and custard tart for pud!

4. I love sunshine! Fact. It was such a lovely weekend here and everyone was happy and getting out and doing things. Everything is better with sunshine!

5. I decided to have a Ben & Jerry sundae for the first time this week at the cinema. Have you had one of these things? It's packed full of stuff! I had Cherry Garcia, Raspberry Brownie and Peanut Butter Cup, filled with warm chocolate sauce, topped with milk chocolate pieces, then whipped cream and sprinkled with nuts!

6. I took my sundae in to see Hangover III. This wasn't the best Hangover film, but it was still awesome and hilarious and full of cringey moments. And Bradley Copper is at his hottest in these films!

7. With the sun shining I decided I needed a new summery perfume, and I chose Escada Cherry In The Air which is really sweet and fruity.

8. I had a clearout this week, mostly of my wardrobe, and me and Mum had a car boot sale. There's a big one not far from where I live every weekend, and because it was such a lovely day it was super busy. We made quite a bit, although I ended up spending most of mine again, but I picked up loads of amazing stuff this week! Keep an eye out for my Thrifty Finds post shortly!

9. After my early morning and hard day selling/shopping, I sat down to the first episode of the new series of Arrested Development. I can't wait to see some more!

What have you loved about this week?

My Adventure To Portugal

Recently I was off on my travels to Alvor in Portugal, where my friends were getting married!

A group of us were staying at Luna Alvor Bay and I was really impressed! I was in room 602 and this was the view from my balcony!

The balcony was really long, so I could also see right over the marina...

...and over Alvor too!

We chucked our bags in our rooms and headed out for a meal with the bride and groom to be at L'Angolo then for drinks at Mourisco, which is the place to be for cocktails! This is a Tangerine Sidecar, or some such deliciousness!

I caught some serious sun (a bit too much as you can see) the next day wandering around town and checking out the marina, then it was time to get dolled up and hit the town with the girls! We had a delicious meal at Adega D'Alvor and cocktails and dancing at Bar Havana. (Note: It's difficult to get your hair to do anything here, I had rollers in for half the day and the waves fell out super-quick!)

On Tuesday I had a day by the pool to sort out my red front/white back scenario and in the evening we all went to a lovely restaurant called Lusitania, which has flowers hanging from the roof inside and great food.

Wednesday was the big day, so I got the curlers in and headed out for lunch! Sexy, huh?!

This was at a place called Mel & Canela (I think!), which also did the most amazing ice cream! I had Snickers and Ferrero Rocher. Yum!

The wedding was in the afternoon so there was plenty of time to get ready and head to the church, which was beautiful.

The whole day was wonderful! As we all walked through the cobbled streets after the service, the locals looked out of their windows and doors as we passed. It all felt very Mamma Mia!

Unfortunately there weren't official photos taken of all the guests, so I can't show you my glamorous outfit! I really should have thought to take a photo first, but had hoped for a good, professional one. On the plus side, I can wear the outfit again!

After the wedding a few of us hit the town and headed to the Sports Bar for cocktails and dancing (sensing a bit of a theme here?)!

As you can imagine, the following day was for chillaxing, so I headed to the beach with my friend and her little girls and we splashed about in the sea, made sandcastles and ate ice cream!

In the evening we all went out to Navegador, which was the first meal that I'd had in Alvor that I wasn't that impressed with :(

The rest of the holiday was taken up with relaxing at the beach, eating out, walking around town, shopping etc.

If you ever find yourself in Portugal, you could also try out Don Toro steak restaurant in Alvor, and Aqua shopping centre in Portimão, where there's a lot of great shops including Parfois, Loja Do Gato Preto and Primark!

This place is seriously beautiful!

Free Comic Book Day 2013

OK, this post is a bit late, but the day before I went on holiday, Saturday 4th May 2013, was Free Comic Book Day!

So, as is now tradition, I popped along to my local comicbook shop Asylum to join in! I got there first thing to get the most out of the selection and bumped into my lovely friends Paul and Roxanne and chatted away whilst browsing this years offering.

Here's the free comic books I picked up:

All at the cost of a donation to Asylum's chosen local charity, Cosseted Critters. Bargain!

And I bought these graphic novels:

Can't wait to get started on them! Did you take part in Free Comic Book Day this year? What was your favourite freebie? And what comic books/graphic novels have you been enjoying lately?

☆ Flights Of Fancy ☆

Things which have captured my imagination this week...

How beautiful is this Wisteria tunnel?

These animal sculptures are made out of pipecleaners? Wow!

How hilarious is this?!

I always manage to find a bag I fancy! Add this to the list please!

I've been thinking about getting a bike recently, and of course I'd need a basket like this too!

I love this fabric, and this fabric, but what to make...
